

ATHENS – Beatrice E. (Gallop) Stringer Tibbetts, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2014. She was born in Tiverton, RI on February 22, 1922 the daughter of Florence (Davoll) and Richard Gallop.
Beatrice grew up in Mattapoisett and New Bedford, MA and raised her family with William in Dartmouth, MA before moving to Harmony, ME in 1972. She then lived at the Cotton Mill senior citizen housing in Hallowell from 1997 until 2013, before spending this last year at Tissues County Estates, Athens.
Beatrice was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, New Bedford, MA; West Gardiner Baptist Church, West Gardiner; and First Baptist Church of Harmony, Harmony, ME.
She was predeceased by her parents and 8 siblings; husband of 44 years, William E. Stringer and husband, Norman Tibbetts.
Beatrice is survived by her children, Betty Ann Hart and husband David of Harmony, David Stringer and wife Elaine of New Bedford, MA, and Priscilla Ashley and husband Peter of Dartmouth, MA; grandchildren, Jennifer Dumond, Robert Hart, Peter Ashley, Jr., Matthew Ashley, Sarah Roberts, Michael Ashley, Tracy Napert, and Shawn Stringer; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Couza of Dartmouth, MA and Emma Ward of New Bedford, MA; brother-in-law Charles Stringer and wife Lillian of Kingston, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 17,2014 at First Baptist Church of Harmony, 20 High St., Harmony with Pastor Henry Thibodaux, III officiating. Interment will follow at Libby Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, ME. 04976.
