Bernice Crockett Dionne

1925 – 2014

Bernice Annie “Bunny” Dionne, 88, passed away peacefully in Skowhegan on April 17, 2014 after a long period of diminished health.

Bunny was born in Pittsfield on May 29, 1925 to Cecil and Betty (Larrabee) Crockett. Her family later moved to Skowhegan, where she graduated from Skowhegan Business School and met the love of her life, Rudolphe “Rudy” Dionne. The two were married on August 5, 1946 in Skowhegan, where they raised eleven children on their dairy farm. While Rudy managed the farm, Bunny managed the household, teaching her children valuable life skills.

Bunny and Rudy loved their large family which, when they were young, often spent Sundays together at Uncle Wally’s camp or skiing at Eaton Mountain. After retirement, their family often gathered at their new home in Madison and more recently in Skowhegan. They also shared a love of travel, journeying together to various destinations. Bunny was active with her church through the Daughters of Isabella and choir. She also was a member of the Skowhegan Women’s Club.

Bunny will be missed by her children, Judith and Paul Scoville of Chelmsford, MA; Jane and Dennis Jewell of Cornville; Carole and Mary Lou Dionne-Fabrizio of Portland; Pamela and Sam Eames of Norridgewock; Susan and Randy Porter of Buxton; Barbara and Don Vereault of Bangor; Barry Dionne and Lynn Landry of Sebec; Jack Dionne of Skowhegan; Daniel Dionne of Anson; and Jeffrey and Claire Dionne of Benton; sister Eleanor Robinson of Bangor; close in-laws Genevieve and Horace Fortier, Verna Roy Lister, and Richard Getchell, all of Skowhegan; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bunny was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy in 2012. She was also predeceased by both parents, her son Gregory, and her brothers Roy, Sherm and Billy Crockett.

A funeral mass will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes church in Skowhegan at 10:00 am Friday, May 23, 2014, followed by a committal service at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bunny’s memory to St. Anthony’s Soup Kitchen at Notre Dame of Christ the King parish, The American Stroke Association, or Beacon Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Redington-Fairview General Hospital, Cedar Ridge Nursing Home and Beacon Hospice for the loving care they provided to Bunny over the past year.
