
1938-2010
CORNVILLE- Clyde P. Coffin, husband of Barbara E. (Smith) Coffin, passed on to the Lord, surrounded by his family, on Aug. 21, 2010 at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
He was born July 6, 1938 in Waterville, Maine. He was the oldest son of three children, of the late Forrest and Myrtle (Leeman) Coffin. Clyde attended schools in Winslow, Palermo and Fairfield. He served three years in Alaska, in the U.S. Army and was there in 1959 when Alaska became a State.
He worked at various jobs, the last one for Lucas Tree Company, as Foreman, retiring in 1979, due to ill health. He enjoyed working in his garden, his raspberry patch, he loved to fish and hunt. He took his last walk hunting in 1993 and has been in a wheel chair ever since. He had an infectious smile for everyone he meets.
He was a member of the American Syringomyellia Alliance and a member of the Skowhegan First Church of the Nazarene in Skowhegan.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara (Smith) Coffin of Cornville; two children, a son, Neil Coffin and his wife, Pam, of Fairfield and their children, Jarrod of Ma. and Renee of Fairfield, a great grandson, Tristan of Fairfield, who have become part of the family, a daughter, Terri-Ann Johnson and her husband, Frank, of Kansas, two granddaughters, Rachel Johnson of Ohio and Mary Johnson, of Kansas; a sister, Ruth Fortin of Conn., a brother, Mark and his wife Cheryl, of West Gardiner; several Nieces, Nephews, many good neighbors and a big church family; one special friend, Jeffrey White of Tenn., who was like a son.
Clyde met his Lord and Savior at the Eastern Gate, in Heaven and is walking there with him now.
Viewing hours will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 31 East Madison Rd., Skowhegan, on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 2:00 pm until the time of his funeral service at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Brian Hale officiating. Interment will follow at the Collins Cemetery in Cornville.
