SKOWHEGAN – David L. Hoyt, Sr., 74 went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2014. He was born December 15, 1939 in Tewksbury, MA the son of Lenwood and Esther (Adell) Hoyt. David was raised in Boston and as a youth he worked at Fenway Park. In 1959 he married Rosalie (Ward) and they moved to Connecticut where they raised their sons. David attended the Computer Processing Institute in Connecticut where he achieved a 4.0GPA and earned his associates degree. For many years he worked in the food service industry and ultimately managed restaurants such as Friendlies and Steak & Eggs. In 2002 the whole family moved to Maine, Rosalie’s birthplace. They enjoyed five years here before her passing in 2007.
David was a member of the Bingham Church of the Nazarene. It was his love of Christ that set him apart. He brought countless family members to know the Lord and it was through his faith that he led his son and two nephews to seek vocations in ministry. He also followed Christ’s example and put others before himself. Family was so important to David and many of his family members and his son’s friends considered him a mentor and father figure.
David was a voracious reader and life-long scholar. He carried his electronic Bible with him constantly and he was known to read all types of literature.
David is survived by his sons, David L. Hoyt, Jr. of Skowhegan and Timothy M. Hoyt, Sr. and his wife Tammy of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Jessica P. Harbut, Timothy M. Hoyt, Jr., Elaina Williams, Tyler Perkins, Camden Perkins, Keaton Hoyt; great grandchildren, Adian Gonzalez, Nathan Gonzalez, and Julian Cruz; brothers, William “Billy” Hoyt and Jimmy Allen; sisters, Kim Ragnelli and Donna Hoyt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife; and son, Mark A. Hoyt.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 12-1pm, Friday, September 12 at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home where a funeral service will begin at 1pm with the Rev. Eric Larsen officiating. Interment will follow at East Skowhegan Cemetery, Oak Pond Rd., Skowhegan.
