Dorothy M. Beckler

She was born May 1, 1929 in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of Raymond Swift and Dorothy (Ritchie) Swift Hadley.

She attended and graduated from Melrose, MA, High School. She then graduated from Tufts University in Boston with a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Dorothy met and married Richard B. Beckler in 1951 in East Harpswell, he passed away in 1961.

She spent many years as an occupational therapist working out of the Waterville/ Skowhegan area. She spent many years as a homemaker raising her three children.

She was an active member at the First Congregational Church in Norridgewock and an active member in the Norridgewock Community Events. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, arts, crafts, reading, walking and spending time with people.

She is survived by her three children; Richard Beckler and his wife Barbara of Norridgewock, Karen Beckler and her husband Dana Googins of Dayton, ME, Paul Beckler of Norridgewock, many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister Mary Bacall, two brothers George Swift and Raymond Swift.

Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2011 from 12 to 1 pm at the First Congregational Church, 32 River Road, Norridgewock, Maine, with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Richards officiating, burial will follow the service at the Sunsetview Cemetery in Norridgewock.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
