

He was born in Harmony to Benjamin and Mabel (Kimball) Nichols on Nov. 24, 1928. He was a graduate of Harmony High School, class of 1945. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Central Maine Power Company for 37 years. He was a member of the Canaan Calvary Church where he served as Deacon and Treasure for many years. He also served as a property manager for Skowhegan District Court from 1997 to the present as well as a volunteer for the Skowhegan Fire Department. Earl greatly enjoyed watching football games, flying model airplanes. He loved to read and was an excellent carpenter.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Nichols, whom he married in 1972; his five daughters: Vicki Laney of Winthrop, Deborah LaPlante and husband Richard of Skowhegan, Rhonda Rugan and companion Raymond Gabree of Skowhegan, Wendy Robinson and companion Tom Ward of Canaan, Melanie Adams and husband Dan of Skowhegan; a son, Robert Nichols, and wife Kelly of Skowhegan; seven grandchildren: Lindsey, Rhiannon, Eric, Jill, Holly, Garrett and Kerri; five great-grandchildren and two nephews, Jimmy and Kevin LeVasseur.
He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Charlotte LeVasseur, and a son, Brent Nichols.
A visitation will be held at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Canaan Calvary Church on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Brooks officiating, committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
