Edith “Tootie” Kenney, 70, of Skowhegan, died Friday, May 13, 2016 in her home ending a two year battle with ALS. Edith was born in Anson on Sept. 21, 1945; she was the daughter of Meredith and Ruth (Fish) Moore. Edith was educated in Anson and Madison schools. On April 21, 1973 she married Mike Kenney. In 1974, they opened Mike’s Repair Shop, Mike’s Pony Rides and later Edith and Mike’s Concessions. For the past 43 years they worked side by side running their family businesses.
Edith enjoyed camping, fishing, gambling, and dining out, but her true passion was her family and friends. She was happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating countless memories for them. She enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband and was always up for an adventure. She loved capturing memories on film, always having a camera nearby. Her pictures will forever remind us of her deep love for her family and friends. She will be remembered as a family historian, spending countless hours traveling around the state researching and documenting her family genealogy.
Edith is survived by her husband Mike, her three children; Mark and his partner Christy and his sons Dillon and Wyatt of Skowhegan; Timothy and his wife Ann and their daughters, Elizabeth and Julia of Lewiston; Debra and her partner Eric and her daughter Alexandria of Norridgewock; her step daughter, Brenda and her children Patrick, Cheryl and Kayla of Arizona, her sister, Inez Moody and her husband Raymond of Anson; a brother, William Moore and his wife Helen of Anson, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and 2 brothers, Weston and Maxell Moore.
Mike and his family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to family friends Ivan Brown, Cheryl Rowe, and Jack and Sue Davis for the love and support they provided to Edith, Mike and their family through her illness. They would also like to thank Dr. Donald Dubois and the staff from Maine General Hospice who made it possible for Edith to remain in her home until her death.
A graveside service will be held Sat. May 21st at 3:00 PM at Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan. A gathering will be held at the home of Mike and Edith following the graveside series. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave, Skowhegan, ME.
