Jake was born November 6, 1942 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the son of the late Glen and Alice (Stickney) Harrington.
He was a loving, devoted husband to Kathleen E. (Eagen) Harrington. Together they raised three children. He was a loving, caring father and “Bawmpy” to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He supported his family by being an employee of three local shoe factories, Norwock Shoe, Dexter Shoe and New Balance.
Jake loved having his family gather for camping trips, BBQ’s, or just to enjoy a great campfire. He was always willing to share a story, give advice, do carpentry work, or play his mandolin and sing a song for us. We will miss his voice, his wisdom and his love.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathleen E. Harrington of Skowhegan, three children; Barry L. Harrington of Deer Isle, Glen Harrington Jr. and his wife Janet of Madison, and Laurie LaCasse of Skowhegan, two siblings; Vivian Steward of Skowhegan, and Donald Harrington of Madison, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, brothers and sister in-laws and friend Robin James of Skowhegan.
Jake was predeceased by his parents and two brothers; Harold and Ronald Harrington.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlawn Nursing Home for their support and care of Jake.
Jake will be laid to rest beside his parents and brothers at a graveside service to be held on Wednesday December 21, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Maine, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.
In Lieu of flowers the family would like to have donations made in Jake’s memory to The National Fragile X Foundation, 1615 Bonanza St. #202, Walnut Creek, CA 94596
