East Madison—Glen H. Holden, 86, of East Madison passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 21, 2012 with his family by his side.
He was born on April 19, 1926 in Sarasota, Fl., the son of Howard H. Holden and Thelma G. (Raynor) Holden.
He graduated from Skowhegan High School, class of 1944. At eighteen, he joined the Merchant Marines, and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Glen married the former Patricia J. Dickinson on Nov. 22, 1952 in Canaan.
As a young man he worked at Graffmans in Skowhegan as a machinist. In 1962, he opened Colebrook ESSO station in Skowhegan, expanding to include a Saab dealership in 1965, (Coldbrook Saab) which he owned and operated until retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Maine Antique Power Association of more than 30 years, which he was President of for several years.
Glen’s passion was music, starting at the age of 10 until shortly before his death at which time he was an active member of The Skowhegan Community Band, The Old Crow Band in Farmington, The Augusta Symphony, The R.B. Hall Band in Waterville, and the UMF Concert Band.
Glen loved motorcycles; he purchased his first Harley Davidson at the age 12 years old and has owned and operated many since. Among his many other interests were collecting old cars, doing mechanic work, musical instrument repair and a general lust for the new and interesting!!!
Glen was a kind and wonderful man and will be sadly missed by all!!!
He is survived by two sons; Dale H. Holden of Madison, Randy E. Holden and Linda Parsons of Norridgewock; one brother, Howard “Fuzzy” Holden and his wife Jo, of Skowhegan, one sister, Mary L. Holden Mollerus and her husband, Henry “Hal” of Skowhegan; one granddaughter, Haley D. Holden and her Finance Theodore Gottsegen of New York City, one grandson, Cassidy A. Holden, of New Orleans; nephews: Paul Hodges and his wife, Donna, of Newport, Mark Hodges and his wife, Darci, of Norridgewock, David Holden and his wife, Nicole, of Clinton; nieces: Ruth Holden of Windham, Linda Holden Hurley and her husband, Brooks, of Belfast, Deborah Holden Murray and her husband, Congar, of Ellsworth, many great nieces and nephews and several cousins; special family friend, Dan Richardson.
He is predeceased by his wife Patricia J. (Dickinson) Holden, his parents Howard H. and Thelma (Raynor) Holden, brother, Richard C. Holden, nephew, William David Holden, niece, Sharon I. Hodges Luce.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery in Canaan, with the Rev. Mark A. Tanner officiating. Following the service, there will be a gathering of friends and family at the Tewksbury hall, Island Ave., Skowhegan, right behind the Federated Church.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
