

Canaan – Glenys M. Oliver, 94, passed away on November 14, 2013. She was born in Skowhegan on August 15, 1919 the youngest of Sarrah (Dyer) and Percy Easler’s 6 children and raised in Madison. In 1947 Glenys married Charles Oliver after he returned from serving in WWII. Together they bought a farm in Canaan where they raised their 7 children. Glenys was a devoted homemaker who loved to bake and tend her garden. She was so talented in the kitchen that she made a business of selling homemade butter, breads, jams and the produce they grew. In her later years, Glenys took up art and her beautiful watercolors are treasured by her family. Glenys loved her family and any chance to spend time with them including Saturday night spaghetti suppers. As their family grew to include grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren holidays became even more special to Glenys. Throughout it all Glenys never wanted to be far from her most beloved and constant companion, her husband.
She was predeceased by her parents; infant son, Gregory Oliver; 5 siblings; and son-in-law Larry Cookson.
Glenys is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles Oliver; 7 children, Richard and Linda Oliver of Winn, Donna Cookson of Benton, Brenda and Larry Jones of Norridgeowck, Darlene and Brian Bowden of Orrington, Sheila and George Allen of Skowhegan, Debra and Peter Re of Oakland and Kathy and David Snell of Canaan; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; step sister Marjorie (Easler) Driscoll of Dresden; and a large extended family.
Funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 20 at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery, Canaan.
Glenys’s family extends their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff at Redington-Fairview General Hospital’s Special Care Unit, Dr. Gina Gomez, and hospice nurse Holly with HealthReach Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
