Harold G. Devoe, 92, of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully Thursday January 26, 2017 at his home in Skowhegan, Maine.
He was born May 20, 1924 in Skowhegan, Maine, the son of George Devoe and Emily (Dore) Devoe.
Harold graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1941, and he then entered the US Army surviving in WWII in the Philippines Liberation as a medic.
He married Irene Poirier on June 29, 1946 in Skowhegan, Maine.
Harold started off working for Norrwock Shoe Company in Skowhegan and the MedWed Footwear both for several years, he also worked for Cianbro. He spent many years in law enforcement working for both the Skowhegan Police Department and the Somerset Sheriff’s Department.
He was a member of the Skowhegan/Madison Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion in Skowhegan. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved playing cribbage, and he also enjoyed camping.
His greatest joy was spending time with his son and his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife Irene of 70 years of Skowhegan, he also leaves his son Jon Devoe and his wife Bonnie of Skowhegan; his three grandchildren, Lauri and her husband Alan Blanchet, Kim and her husband Wayne Sylvester, Andrea and her husband Jerrod Thebarge; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Blanchet, Rylie Blanchet, Caleb Charrier, Caitlyn Charrier, and Samantha Thebarge.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
