She was born April 1, 1921 in Waldo, Maine the daughter of Emery and Charlotte (Braley) Sprague.
She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast. Her first husband William Linton was killed in active service in WWII. In 1946 she married Willard Gordon. They had a son Kenneth. Willard died in 1966. In 1971 she married G. Burton Greene who died in 1982. Hilda moved to Skowhegan following her marriage to Willard. For many years Hilda was employed as a beautician. She was very active in a number of civic organizations and especially liked the extension. She was a member of the Skowhegan Federated Church and the Mayflower Society. She loved to play cards with a keen interest in bridge, golfing, and swimming. She was a very sociable person and mixed easily with a wide variety of persons. She had a remarkable memory for birthdays, anniversaries and holiday events. She sent cards and notes to many folks. She took great pleasure in decorating her home for the holidays or family occasions, always being a gracious hostess. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her sisters Norma Rogers and Suzanne Thompson and brothers Malcolm Sprague and J. Douglas Sprague.
She is survived by her son Kenneth Gordon and his wife Susan and grandson Ross Gordon, her sisters Barbara Hinckley and Elizabeth Paden and her brothers Roger, Hayden, and Bruce Sprague.
Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating, burial will follow at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
