Marita Beckwith Hartwell,94, longtime resident of Cornville passed away on Thursday June 28, 2018. She was born on February 4, 1924 in Cornville , the daughter of Charles and Lephe (Henderson) Beckwith.
Marita was a member of Skowhegan High School Class of 1942. She married Robert E. Hartwell. They lived in Maine for several years before moving to Alaska in February 1945. They spent twenty-one years living in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Marita moved back to Cornville in October 1966 after her husband passed away. She worked at Cross Hardware and Russakoff Jewelers in Skowhegan until she retired.
Marita was active with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Madison. She served on their advisory board and earned the Grand Cross of Color. She was a lifetime
member of Sunset Chapter 53 Order of Eastern Star in Skowhegan. She served as Worthy Matron 4 times, Grand Ruth and was a Grand Representative to Illinois and Washington. She also was a District Deputy Grand Matron.
She is survived by her children Nancy Geron of Pahrump,NV and husband Jack, Bob Hartwell of Thorne Bay, Alaska and wife Barbara, Bonnie Thames of Pensacola,FL, Holly Butterfield of Spanaway,WA and husband Gary, Bill Hartwell of Tomball,TX and wife Jackie and Betsy Gore of Dexter,MI and husband Barry.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers Wendell, Philip, and Kenneth Beckwith, her beloved sister Charline B. Parlin and son in-law Kelly Thames.
Marita has 13 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren and 5 nieces.
The family of Marita Hartwell wishes to thank all of the many friends, family members and care givers for all they have done to help our Mom. Kay Laney, her niece, deserves extra thanks for her endless years of caring. A final sincere thanks to Michelle Del Vecchio and Jolene Butterfield for their love and compassion which was so instrumental in comforting their Nana in her final months.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 3,2018 at 2 pm at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home located in Skowhegan.
