

She was born October 16, 1919 in Prescott, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Patrick J. McAndrews and Ina (Carveth) McAndrews.
She attended and graduated from North Adams State Teachers College in North Adams, MA, in the class of 1942.
She served in the US Navy during WWII.
She married Martin Caunter on May 26, 1945 in Adams, MA, he died October 1977.
Jean was a school teacher for 25 years in the Smithtown School district in Long Island, NY.
Jean is a communicant of the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan, member of the Monday Bridge Club in Skowhegan, she was a great bowler, she loved traveling the US and abroad, she loved to travel and visit with her family.
She is survived by her five children; Bruce Caunter and his wife Sue of Johnsburg, NY, Philip Caunter and his wife Suzanne of Ringgold, GA, Donna Hendricks and her husband Tom of Cornville, Carol LeGault and her husband Artie of Daphne, AL, Ronald Caunter and his wife JoAnn of Ballston Lake, NY, one sister; Catherine Forth and her husband Mike of Glastonbury, CT, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law Kathy Caunter of NY, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son Martin Caunter.
Viewing hours will be held on Thursday April 8, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, Skowhegan, with a burial to be held at a later date in Long Island, New York.
Donations may be made in Jean’s memory to her favorite charity the Special Olympics Maine, Attn: Linda, 125 John Roberts Rd #19, South Portland ME 04106 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
