Richard Arthur Clark

Richard “Butch” Clark of Canaan, Maine passed away from injuries sustained in a tragic traffic accident on January 14th, 2017. He was born January 2, 1947 to Arthur E. Clark and Barbara P. (Tuttle) Clark. He graduated from Skowhegan High School class of 1965. He served 2 years in the armed services and upon his return he worked for Canadian Chains as a Sales Rep traveling the New England states. He married Pamela J. Corson on June 14, 1969. He had started his career of driving truck in 1968 working for his Uncle Bertrand Clark hauling milk, and then purchased that business March 1, 1970 naming the business Clark’s Milk Transport. In 1985 he and Pam moved to the Clark farm on Moore’s Mill Rd where He took up milking his own cows and hauling his own milk to market along with the farmers he already hauled milk for. Over the years the milk truck business grew to a fleet of 6 tanker trucks traveling across central Maine bringing farm fresh milk to the creameries of H P Hood, West Lynn, Oakhurst, and Garelick farms. 365 days a year the milk trucks ran, through all the inclement weather Mother Nature could throw at them, no holidays off, no sick days off, the farmers could depend on him, his drivers and his trucks to pick up their milk and take it to market. He was a good man who treated everyone with fairness and respect and was always willing to lend anyone a helping hand. He was a member of the Canaan Grange serving as past master, a member of the Canaan Farmers Hall and Canaan Calvary Church.

He was predeceased by his daughter Monica Jean Clark, parents Arthur E. Clark, Barbara P. Tuttle Clark, his step father Albin C. Clark, his sister Lucille B. Clark Smith, great nephews Daniel Ryan Smith, and Sawyer Harrison LePage, his mother and father in law Aubrey L. Corson and wife Lillian (Buck) Corson, sister in law Wanita Corson Danforth, brother in law Walter Corson, sister in law Peggy Bragg Corson, step brother in law Stanley Norris of Palmyra and son in law Dana Seavey of Canaan.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Pamela J. Clark, his daughter Karen M. Clark and her children Tyler R. Seavey and Tayler P. Seavey, his son Bertrand A. Clark and his companion Tanya Porter, his children Bertrand A Clark Jr and his companion Wrendysue Emerton, Benjamin C. Clark and Nicholas P. Clark and a great grandson Jerry S. Clark, a sister Raejean Clark Herrin and her husband Robert, a sister Kathy Clark Quirion and her husband Rodney, all from Canaan, step brother Hal Clark and his wife Mary of Portsmouth, NH, step sister Sue Clark Norris and her companion Dwayne Littlefield of Hartland, brother in law Eudell Corson and his wife Carol Ann Soucier Corson of Skowhegan, brother in law Russell Corson of Canaan, sister in law Tina Corson Pike and her husband Larry of Cornville, brother in law James L Smith and his second wife Anna of North Carolina, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, a maternal Aunt, Irene Feeney Tuttle and special cousins Rachel and Ann Glidden and Betty Glidden Hanks of New Hampshire, and close friends Raymond and Nancy Reitze of Canaan.

Butch was revered by many in the farming community and will be greatly missed by us all.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday January 21, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
