
Brent Alan Corson died of natural causes at his residence in Skowhegan, Maine on May 24, 2013. Born February 14, 1946, Brent was the first of three Corson children. His parents, Thurl and Alyse Corson, were longtime residents of Skowhegan. He is survived by a sister, Cathy Corson Lucey, of Hermon, Maine, and a younger brother, Thurl R. Corson, Jr., “Bud” of Leesburg, Florida. Nephews and nieces include Thurl Weston Corson of Leesburg, Florida; Kimberly Austin of Mascotte, Florida; Ryan Patrick Lucey of Bucksport, Maine, and Erin Alyssa Lucey of Bangor, Maine.
Brent graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1964 and went on to graduate cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in 1968.
Having completed is understudies, including ROTC; Brent entered the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and proudly served 4 years obtaining the rank of Captain. While in Viet Nam, serving with the 197th Black Horse Battalion, Brent received the Bronze Star Medal of Valor.
Upon returning to the states, Brent received his Master of Fine Arts from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio where he became happily involved in professional theater for several years, before returning to his New England home. He even landed a minor role in a Betty Davis movie entitled “Harvest Home”.
Having returned to his home state, Brent worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Madison, Maine as a rural carrier where he made many friends along his mail route. Then Brent took on an active role in the Revolutionary War enactments at Old Fort Weston in Augusta, Maine, where he immensely enjoyed teaching elementary school visitors many of the practices of our colonial ancestors.
Among Brent’s favorite hobbies in later years were landscape gardening, antique furniture restoration and listening to classical music and Maine Public Radio.
Private services will be held for family and friends at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, Maine on June 18, 2013 at 1 p.m., where Brent will be laid to rest near his parents.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
