Richard Hilton Sr.

He was born in Skowhegan, Sept. 7, 1953, the son of the late Raymond A. and Geraldine A. (Phillips) Hilton.

Richard graduated from Skowhegan Area High School, class of 1971.

He married the love of his life, Jeannette Douin on March 4, 1972 in Madison, together they began their family in Norridgewock. Adding Rachel and Ricky to their home made their lives rich and full.

Richard spent a good part of his life as a dedicated woodsman throughout the State of Maine. His accident in 1997 took him out of the woods he loved, but his love of wood continued. He started creating beautiful pieces of furniture in his own woodshop for family and friends. This was a hobby that combined his love of working with his hands and the smell of sawdust into gifts for others to enjoy.

He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved the outdoors whether camping, snowmobiling or four wheeling, but most of all he just loved spending time with his family and a little game of Gin Rummy.

He is survived by his wife Jeannette of 39 years, of Norridgewock; two children, a daughter Rachel Powers of Wesley Chapel, Fla., a son, Richard Hilton Jr. of Norridgewock; three brothers, Alan Hilton and his wife, Elaine, of Mercer, Bruce Hilton and his companion, Tom Plattenberger, of Mexico, Gary Hilton and his wife, Annette, of Norridgewock, three sisters, Pam Leo and her husband, Jim, of Norridgewock, Cindy Clark of Skowhegan, Linda Smith and her husband, Jeff, of Norridgewock; four grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Powers, Allicia and Sky Hilton and so many loved Nieces and Nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Me.

A funeral service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home with the pastor Robert Farley officiating.
