He was born March 4, 1932 in Winslow, Maine, the son of Romeo and Mary Louise Pomerleau. Because the bridge was impassable due to flooding, little preemie Robert was born on the Clinton Avenue hill, and placed in a shoe box on the oven door to be kept warm.
From his tiny beginning Robert grew into a big life. He attended Winslow High School where he enjoyed football and basketball, graduating in 1951.
After serving 4 years in the Navy, Bob graduated from Thomas College and began his almost 30 year teaching career. Skowhegan Area High School became his base and he was proud to have begun teaching his 3rd generation of students just before retiring.
In his retirement years Robert loved traveling in the motorhome with Cynthia, his wife of 45 years. His second favorite retirement activity was running into former students everywhere he went. ‘Mr. Pomerleau’ was always ready to stop and visit with them, and took great joy in learning where their lives had taken them.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Louise Pomerleau, his father Romeo Pomerleau, his step-mother Estelle Pomerleau, and his son Daniel Pomerleau.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cynthia of Skowhegan; his sister, Priscilla Pomerleau; his children, Judi Micoley, Greg Pomerleau, Debi Chagaruly, David Pomerleau; his stepson, Stephen Turcotte; his grandchildren, Justin, Cierra, Crystal, Rachel; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Zoey; and several special nieces and nephews.
