

Rodney was born August 23, 1943 in Skowhegan to the late Ernest Lee Dawes Sr. and Gladys Pearl (Whitman) Dawes.
He attended Skowhegan area schools until the ninth grade when he left to work for his father
working on water pumps. Rodney also served in the Army during the Vietnam War at the time of the Tet Offensive. He also worked for Dexter Shoe in Skowhegan for 24 years before becoming disabled and retiring.
Rodney Married Pearl Amber York on June 26, 1965 in Skowhegan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing Poker-Keno on Tuesday and Sunday nights. Rodney attended the Skowhegan Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Skowhegan before his health made it hard for him to go.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Pearl (York) Dawes of Skowhegan, his only daughter Shelly and her husband Luke of Skowhegan, his only granddaughter and pride and joy Sasha (his sweet pea) of Skowhegan, his sister Rita and her husband Adolf Mattson of Milo, his brother Carleton and Wife Shirley of East Madison, his brother Ernest Jr. and Wife Pamela of Skowhegan, his sister Cathy and her husband Mickey of Standish, his sister Emily of Skowhegan, his brother-in-law Bill Copeland of Skowhegan, his sister Gloria and her husband Brian of Skowhegan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his beloved cat Crystal who he loved a lot.
Rodney is predeceased by his brother Kenneth Gallant, his brother Reginald Dawes, and his sister Bertha Robbins.
The close family would like to send out a huge thank you and appreciation to the Healthreach Hospice nurses, volunteers and workers who became like family and made this time as easy as it could be.
Burial services to happen at a later date at Mt. Rest Cemetery in Athens, ME, with full military honors.
