Violet Sylvia Miller

Violet Sylvia Miller of Canaan joined her loving lord on 7/02/13 at the Redington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan Maine. Violet was born on Aug. 7, 1923 in Skowhegan. Violet was the daughter of Aratus and Louise Ames. She graduated from the Skowhegan school system. Violet married Norman Miller on August 28, 1954 and resided in Connecticut where she worked at, Pratt Whitney Aircraft. They later moved to Canaan.

Violet was dedicated in service to her lord. She was very active in church activities and was a long time member of the Canaan Calvary Church and later at the Hartland Baptist Church. She taught Bible Classes at the Christian School in Canaan. While residing in Connecticut she and Bud were active in churches there, teaching Bible classes. She and Bud purchased Ralphs Inn in Canaan and for a number of years ran a periodicals business. They then retired to their home near Sibley Pond.

Violet was from a large family of 14. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, her parents, Aratus and Louise Ames, a brother Linwood Ames and wife Rita, a brother Aratus “Joe” Ames Jr., a sister in law Teresa Ames wife of Robert, brother Richard “Dickey” Ames and wife Linda, brother Tommy Ames, sister Marylisa, sister Virginia Gustafson and husband Lawrence, brother in law Gus Gustafson.

She is survived by step son Wayne Miller, sister June and husband Ralph Bellavance, sister in law Doris wife of Aratus Ames Jr., brother Robert Ames and companion Betty, Sister Hazel Gustafson wife of Gust Gustafson, brother Stanley Ames and wife Patrricia, sister Darlene and husband Mayron Corson, sister Pauline and husband Bernard Willey, sister Sharon and husband Clayton Cooley. Many nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.

Violet was very compassionate, she was always there for anyone in need, a shoulder to cry on, to give advice, furnish help in any manner possible. Violet was a joy to be with and will be missed by family, friends and all who knew her.

Visitation will be on the Monday evening July 8,2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10th at 2 PM at the Smart & Edwards Funeral. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Canaan.
