

Walter was born Oct. 16, 1933 in Hyde Park, N.Y., the son of Walter and Viola Thorp.
Walter was the beloved husband and soul mate of 59 years to his wife, Eleonore “Ellie”. They met while he was in the Air Force stationed in Germany. Eleonore “Ellie”came to America to share his life in 1956, where they spent 15 years in Connecticut before moving to Maine.
In 1971 their family moved to Norridgewock, Maine, where Walter worked for Clark’s Heating Oil for 29 years, before retiring.
Walter’s interests included remolding the farm house, being outdoors, planting and harvesting a big garden, and maintaining the perfect lawn. In his early retirement years he enjoyed biking and canoeing with Eleonore “Ellie”. Walter loved getting together with his family, eating, laughing and telling stories. During his life at Maplecrest, he enjoyed singing, and socializing with everyone there.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Alice.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleonore “Ellie” Thorp, his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brad Ouellette, his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tina Thorp, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lydia Thorp and his beloved granddaughter, Zoe, also his brother and sister-in law, Robert and Joan Thorp, his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Green, and many Nephews, Nieces and Friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
