Imogene "Tody" Zimmerhanzel

Imogene “Tody” Zimmerhanzel went to be with her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 14, 2013. She found peace in God’s arms, the promise she had lived for for 87 years.

Tody was born on January 19, 1926 to Claudia and Hope J. Daniels in West Point, Texas. She was the youngest of three children, Gladys Flournoy, (Jim), Robert J. Daniels, and Virginia Noblitt, (Muggins).

On January 14, 1945, she married the love of her life, Henry Ernest Zimmerhanzel. They started dating when she was 15, fell in love the night they met, and was told by Henry that night, one day he was going to marry her. After nurses training at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Houston where she received her nursing degree and WWII for him, they were married; a marriage that lasted 53 years. Henry went to be with God on May 2, 1998.

Tody is survived by daughter, Priscilla, “Prissy” Parsons of Smithville. She has two grandsons, Todd Glenn Parson, (Candice) of Smithville, and Matthew Henry, “Matt” Parsons, (Penny) of Taylor. Four grandchildren were born for Tody to love – Carlee, Tanner, Chandler and Julie Brooke Parsons. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.

Tody was an active member of 1st Baptist Church of Smithville, Eastern Star Lodge #39, had been involved in Woman’s Club, Garden Club, Widow’s Club and had at times taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved working in her home and especially her yard, usually filled with beautiful flowers that won her “Yard of the Month” numerous times through the years.

As her daughter, she and my dad set a wonderful love of God by taking me to church and Sunday school from a very early age. I watched as my dad knelt down nightly to pray, and both read their Bibles every day. Each night they read different versions of the Bible, chapter by chapter, together. What a wonderful feeling to know they are in God’s arms today. They left a wonderful legacy to their family.

I will always miss both of them, and know I will meet them again when God calls me.
