Buddy was a man of God and science, fascinated by the complexities of the universe and the sacredness of the church. Any patient visitor to his home would inevitably soon hear of his recent or past learnings, most often focused on science. His memory for details was astounding.
Also an artist, and unlike many who use cameras to record scenes, Buddy always had a sketch pad handy. He drew images in black and white, often in great detail. After each trip overseas, his art room was filled with watercolor paintings that reflected the countries visited.
As a father of nine children, he taught each of us the value of preserving the earth through conservation, recycling and re-creation of objects into functional art. In our home, everything became a potential canvas.
Buddy was a dichotomy of faith and science, humor and intellect, introspection and selflessness. In addition to his nine children, he was a foster parent and host of our extended Vietnamese family, Shun Dau and My Luu and children, and Tien Luu.
Buddy attended St. Michael Parish in Snohomish where his stained glass window design completes nearly one entire wall of the church chapel. He was a third degree in the Knights of Columbus, member of Friends of the Snohomish Library and Sky Valley Art Guild. He gave to countless charities; too many to mention.
Buddy was born in Vancouver, WA on November 11, 1924. He was a Navy SeaBee, serving in the Phillipines, Hawaii and China. His 35-year career was spent as a machinist at Boeing.
Buddy was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Kammer; and great grand daughter, Isis Kammer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeannine Kammer, and his children, Ron Kammer (Frances), Greg Kammer (Cydna), Renee Miles (Jo), Paul Kammer (Donna), Paulette Norman (Randy), Tim Kammer, Heidi Thaut (Joel) and Jack Kammer (Dawn). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Parish in Snohomish, 1512 Pine St at 11:00 a.m. on February 6, 2012. It will be preceded by a Rosary in the church chapel at 10:00 a.m.
We give thanks for the long life of Buddy, our husband, father and grandfather, now caught up in God's eternal love.
