"The 3½ Million Mile Man"
Glyn passed away peacefully on September 28, 2010.
Glyn was born on September 25, 1940 to Esther and Clarence Hjort in Kirkland, WA. The family moved to Snohomish, WA in 1956.
Glyn was active in the Marine Reserves from 1958 to 1966. He started his driving career at the age of 19 and continued until his retirement in May of 2004. Some of his employers included Virgil Reed, Merle Johnson, Jack Haydock, Ben Thomas, Herb Walcker, Bill Hawkins, A.J Cloninger and last, George Anderson. Employers knew if Glyn was driving, the truck was in good hands. Even though Glyn was diagnosed with M.S. in 1999, he continued to drive until May, 2004.
Glyn married Sherry Rowe in 1972, also acquiring a son Jamie, then had Brady Glyn in 1974.
Glyn loved El Caminos, owning a '64, '65, '66, '68 and a '71. His first car was a 1955 Chevy and it was rumored that he had been clocked at 140 miles an hour going from Snohomish to Monroe (twice!).
Glyn was a race car owner from 1975 to 1987 and had some of the top race car drivers drive for him - Ralph Jennings, Mark Huson, Ray Moore and Eddie Evans. Bob Evans built six engines for him and his car was known as the "Tractor" for its endurance. He raced in Fairbanks, Alaska and in California, as well as locally at Skagit.
His first toy truck was collected in 1950. Then he started collecting "Toy Trucks" in 1992 with friend Tom Bergan. Together, they displayed their collection at shows from Prince George to Eugene, Oregon. Glyn had an ability to build a truck or trailer that mirrored one he was driving, or that of one of his friends. His first remote was in 2000. It was a collection to be admired. He was very detailed and enjoyed his hobby very much. Glyn was a master in his driving profession and in his hobbies.
He was also an Eagles member since 1963.
Glyn leaves his two sons, Brady Glyn and Jamie (Kathy); a sister, Joanne (Dennis); brother, Tom; niece, Jean Marie "Shorty"; grandchildren, Livvy, Kiersten ,Taylor, and Harley.
Glyn would like to thank the people at "Collectors Choice", Cheryl and Judy, for putting up with him the last few years! Glyn also leaves behind special friends, Bill Sophie, Tom Bergan, Tom Goldthorpe, Kenny Waller, Rick Drivstuen, Mauri Drum, and many more. Glyn says "Goodbye from the last of the bad guys!"
