Jacqueline Kay (Smith) Hayter (67) passed peacefully on October 5, 2023. She was born to Maynard and Donna Smith on March 1, 1956 in Boise, Idaho. The family moved to Oregon and Jacki grew up in Klamath Falls and Mill City before moving to Darrington, Washington when she was 13 years old. It didn’t take long before she caught the eye of her husband-to-be, Roderick Hayter.
Jacki completed High School in three years, attended modeling school, and married Roderick Hayter when she was just 18 years old.
When they were expecting their first child, they received news of complications. Jacki prayed, asking that if God would allow her daughter to survive, she would spend her life giving her the best care she could. Kelsey was born on March 29, 1977 and Jacki was a fearless advocate for Kelsey and other children with special needs. Rod and Jacki also had two more children; Andrew Hayter and Tyler Hayter. The family of five moved to Snohomish, Washington, bought land, and built a beautiful home where Rod and Kelsey still live today. Both sons live close by and have blessed Rod and Jacki with five grandchildren.
Jacki was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, care provider and advocate. She loved horses, her beautiful gardens, especially her rose garden, and her family. When her children were young, she was very involved in their schooling, scouting, and little league. Her door was always open for her kids and grandkids, and she loved making and sharing meals and time with the people she loved most. She always made time for friends and her kitchen was a place where many conversations took place. Many would seek her support and advice and she would always provide counsel using her firm moral beliefs to guide her words. Jacki played a supporting role in building up the family’s trucking business and enjoyed working from home where she handled the day to day office tasks.
Jacki is survived by her husband Rod, daughter Kelsey, sons Andy Hayter (Chelsea), and Tyler Hayter (Jennifer), and her grandchildren Ashley, Tanner, Emersyn, Kylie, and Kayden. Along with her sisters Shelley Coleman and Pam Clark, her brother Randy Smith and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jacqueline’s life will be held on November 11th from 1:00-4:00 at Zion Lutheran School: 3923 103rd Ave Lake Stevens, WA 98258.
