I fist met Jim in 1960 when we turned out for basketball, I didn’t play football, but immediately realized he was a special athlete after watching a few games. He had a lot of natural ability, but I think his brother Al really got him into lifting weights before weight lifting was common. Consequently, he became extremely strong and fast for his size.  I watched him plow over guys in football, but one of my favorite moments was a track meet at UW stadium when he was the anchor leg of a mile relay and received the baton in last place running a sub 49 second quarter mile to pass five other runners to win the race.  He was such a great guy and will be missed by many. My condolences to Cheryl and the entire Morgan family. 

Very sorry to learn of Jim’s demise. He was a leader at MLT Hi School. We all looked up to him and never once did he disappoint. His athleticism made him our most famous student in Metro League and around the state. My condolences to his family.


I was lucky enough to know Jim since 7th grade, I played football and track with Jim and was always amazed with his constantly improving skills. I was lucky enough to be there beside him while he put together the most incredible football offensive stats the Metro League ever recorded. Jim, as a running back, lead in every offensive stat, including those generally attained by the quarterback and other specialty players. Jim was also just as  accomplished on the basketball court and as a state champion in track. I could go on and on about Jim's athletic accomplishments but they are just a reflection of Jim's determination to better himself. He worked hard to be the athlete he turned into.
 As impressive as these hard earned talents were, it was Jim, the human being, that was most impressive. To me, and I'm sure to all who knew him, Jim was one of the kindest individuals I've known. Jim was always so up. Jim greeted and treated new acquaintances just as warm and friendly as he did his closest friends. 
Although we lost track of each other over the years I'm sure Jim enjoyed a fulfilling life, working just as hard at living as he did the last time I saw him. 
I feel blessed to have known Jim and the years we played together during and after high school.
My sincerest condolences to Jim's family, Cheryl, Shannon , Jimmy and his brothers Bob, Al, and Don and their families.
 The world was a better place because of Jim, He will be missed.

As an Oregon transplant, I only knew Jim our last two years of high school but I remember him as a terrific athletic, team player and just plain nice guy. My condolence to all his family and friends.
