Jerry Meyer, a steadfast husband, father, grandfather, devoted firefighter, and adored community member, passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2025 at the age of 73.
As all who knew him are aware, Jerry navigated his life by bringing a sense of safety, belonging, and joviality everywhere he went. Working as a firefighter, he spent 32 years protecting the City of Seattle, carrying a bravery that didn’t end when he hung up his gear. Off duty, he offered that
same sense of dedication to his family and friendships. He was a passionate motorcyclist who found freedom, adventure, and brotherhood on the road. Devoting his life to charity, remaining loyal to his Harley Davidson motorcycle fellowship, and committing to a career of selfless
servitude as a firefighter, Jerry has left a legacy that will endure in the hearts of many.
Huntington’s disease was a part of Jerry’s story, but it did not define him. Even as his condition
progressed, he remained the patriarch and cornerstone of his family. Words and movement may
have slowly left him but love never did. His children and grandchildren knew his pride in them through the squeeze of his hand, the light in his eyes, and in the simple warmth of his presence. Together with his extraordinary wife, they built a blended family rooted in appreciation, empathy, and resilience; a family that gave him as much dignity in his final years as he gave them guidance throughout his life.
Jerry is survived by his brother, Ted, sister, Alyce, devoted wife, Lyla, his children Zachary (Jae) and Patrick (Reese), and stepsons, Kyle (Taylor) and Max (Brittany), seven grandchildren, and a wide circle of beloved friends who will never forget his humor, integrity,
and unwavering spirit.
To honor Jerry’s life of generosity, his family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, causes that spoke deeply to him.
Jerry lived with profound strength and genuine humility. His family, friends, and community will carry his example forward: to be courageous, to serve others, and to never withhold love.
