April 30, 1925November 11, 2018

Josephine “Dodi” Kirkland (she was know as Dodi by many-my dad couldn’t say Josephine when he was little boy so it was her nickname that stuck)

More recently, she’s been known as “Grandma Dodi”

Josephine dedicated her life to serving and educating both youth and adults around the world.

She earned her B.A. from San Diego State and her Doctorate from Northern Arizona University. She worked as a teacher and principal for the San Diego Unified School District.

Upon her retirement, she served as a missionary teacher for the Catholic Church in Cameroon, West Africa, for three years in the 1980s. After returning to San Diego, she worked for the U.S. government in the San Diego Youth Program for three years.

She lived out her remaining years in Washington State. She was loved by everyone whose life she touched.

Josephine is survived by her nephew and his wife, Mr & Mrs. Mark Kirkland and her great-niece and her husband Mr. & Mrs. Maihofer and children Annalia, Samuel and Daniel
