Josephine (Dodi) Kirkland

More recently, she’s been known as “Grandma Dodi”

Josephine dedicated her life to serving and educating both youth and adults around the world.

She earned her B.A. from San Diego State and her Doctorate from Northern Arizona University. She worked as a teacher and principal for the San Diego Unified School District.

Upon her retirement, she served as a missionary teacher for the Catholic Church in Cameroon, West Africa, for three years in the 1980s. After returning to San Diego, she worked for the U.S. government in the San Diego Youth Program for three years.

She lived out her remaining years in Washington State. She was loved by everyone whose life she touched.

Josephine is survived by her nephew and his wife, Mr & Mrs. Mark Kirkland and her great-niece and her husband Mr. & Mrs. Maihofer and children Annalia, Samuel and Daniel.

Josephine's final resting place is in El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, California.

I'm sorry to hear of Josephine's passing. We knew her when she lived in Santee. She was a good friend of my mother, Fern Gates. We really miss seeing Josephine around. My condolences to the family. Josephine was a fabulous human being and a good friend to my mother.
