Judith “Judy” Elene Hagen (Samuelson) passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on January 14, 1946, in Long Prairie, MN, to Seedof and Olga (Pederson) Samuelson and grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Sauk Center High School in 1964, then attended St. Luke’s Nursing Training in Duluth, MN, earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1967. She followed her heart to Washington in July 1969 and married Carnel on November 23, 1969. Judy worked as a registered nurse at Overlake Hospital for 25 years and took 10 years away from nursing to raise their children, Alyson and Marshal. Anytime someone asked her what she did she answered, “I was a nurse and I could not imagine doing anything else!” She also served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Kirkland for 15 years. In her spare time, Judy enjoyed roller skating, sewing, cross-stitching, knitting, and reading. She loved attending musicals and plays at Village Theatre, where she held season tickets for many years. She and Carnel also enjoyed camping and fishing with friends. Judy was a faithful Lutheran attending Faith Lutheran Church. Her love of all things Norwegian, including lutefisk, lefse, and krumkake, will be missed.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Seedof; mother, Olga; and brother, Karl.
Judy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carnel; daughter, Alyson, and son-in-law, Mike Harkins; son, Marshal, and daughter-in-law, Noelle; and four grandchildren, Audrey, Sabrina, Natalie, and Samuel. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Cecelia Samuelson, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Redmond, WA.
The family would like to thank the staff at Green Gables Adult Family Home for two and a half years of loving care. We would also like to thank the staff at Overlake Hospital Medical Center for their gracious care and support.
