Kelly was born on April 20th, 1956 in San Francisco, Ca. to LaVerne Cloer (Reilly). She lovingly handed him over in adoption to Charles and Tui Louise Mowat McDermott. His sister Maggie (Fusaro) McDermott followed into the family a few years later.
He was an all American boy. He loved baseball, bicycles and outdoor fun, always with a smile on his face and friends in tow. He grew up in the East Bay of San Francisco living mostly in Walnut Creek and Moraga. He graduated from Ygnacio Valley High School in 1974.
He married Lisa Haley in 1976, and they made homes in Concord and Pittsburg, and then in 1987 moved to Washington settling in Bellevue, and then Kirkland. During this union, he became the beloved father of Brittany, Ian and Chelsea (Silvey) McDermott.
As Lisa and Kelly parted ways, he became very active in Parents w/o Partners, where he met his future wife, Margie Szweda. They were together 30 years and she brought Anjie, Acacia (Packer) and Craig Szweda into their blended family. They settled down in Mountlake Terrace where Kelly would often be seen not only taking care of his own lawn but his neighbors as well.
Kelly was known as a great cook, he loved his Weber! His other great loves were music, race cars and his dog, Pooch.
Kelly had many jobs in his lifetime including food service, lawn care and trucking. His last 25 years, he was employed by System Transfer and Storage and through System, he worked primarily for PSE. Those two businesses made up his work family and he enjoyed seeing them every day. His friendly smile and funny stories will be missed by all who knew him.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Margie Szweda; his children by both birth and marriage, Brittany, Ian, Chelsea (with Mike), Anjie, Acacia (with Tom), and Craig; his sisters, Maggie (with Mike) and Jami (with Henry Prinz); and his grandchildren Emika, Parker, and Finn. His absence at our large family functions will be greatly missed but his presence will still be felt.
The family wishes to send an invitation to all that loved Kelly or support his family to our Celebration of Life ceremony at Bauer Funeral Chapel 701 First St, Snohomish, WA at 11:00 on June 18th. It will be followed by a house reception afterwards (address to be provided at service) where we can all tell our favorite Kelly stories and remember this awesome life we shared. Kelly would want us all to dress casually and laugh frequently.
