Born in Miami, Florida, Laura was a longtime native of South San Francisco and the greater San Francisco Bay Area in California, the place she first truly called home. In later years she made her home in Lake Stevens, Washington, where she found deep happiness and great joy alongside her beloved husband, Roger. Though she lived a full life, her passing has come far too soon for those who loved her.
Throughout her life, Laura carried with her a deep love for nature and the simple joys that make life meaningful. She found happiness in spending time outdoors—camping, gardening, and being near the ocean. She loved her animals dearly and cherished the moments spent surrounded by family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was playing board games and card games—especially Cards Against Humanity—where her playful spirit and sense of humor always shined through.
If there was one way Laura showed love best, it was through food. She was an exceptional cook who rarely measured ingredients—she measured everything with her heart. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and generosity, where no one left hungry and everyone felt cared for.
Laura was known for having an enormous heart. She was kind, compassionate, and fiercely loyal to the people she loved. She could also be stubborn and fiery, and could hold a grudge like nobody’s business. Communication did not always come easily for her, but the depth of her love for those around her was never in doubt. She would give the shirt off her back to someone in need without hesitation.
Life was not always gentle with Laura. She was dealt some very difficult cards along the way, including the heartbreaking loss of her son, Kevin. Yet in later years she found great happiness with her beloved husband, Roger, who brought her joy and companionship. Seeing her happy with Roger meant the world to those who loved her. In their time together, Laura was happier than she had ever been. Roger was an absolute blessing in Laura’s life and continues to be a blessing to all who love them both.
Despite everything she experienced, Laura maintained a childlike innocence and sweetness that made her easy to surprise and even easier to make blush. There was something special about catching her off guard and seeing her burst into laughter from pure surprise.
Laura is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Roger; her son, Michael; her daughters, Jeannette, Shawna, and Tiffany; and their spouses, Jason, Latisa, and Allen. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren—Justin, Kristina, Karl, Lukas, Erika, Ryann, and Leilani—along with their spouses and partners Bianca, Bryan, Samantha, and Gigi. Laura was also the proud great-grandmother of Bryce, Rhyker, Oliver, and Thomas.
She is also survived by her sisters, Vicki, Michelle, and Cheryl, along with their children. Laura is further survived by the children of her brother Gene, Andrea and James.
Laura was preceded in death by her son, Kevin; her mother, Elizabeth “Betty”; her brothers Eugene (“Gene”) and Robert (“Butch”); and Lad, who always remained a part of her extended family.
As Laura’s family said goodbye, there is little doubt she was warmly welcomed by those who had gone before her, reunited with the loved ones who were waiting to greet her.
Rather than a traditional funeral or memorial service—something Laura would not have wanted—her family will be planning a Celebration of Life at a future date. It would have been Laura’s wish for those who loved her to gather in a spirit of happiness: to celebrate the good moments, share stories, laugh together, and focus on the life she lived and the happiness she brought to others. Details will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been established to help the family with the unexpected expenses surrounding Laura’s passing and to assist in fulfilling her final wishes. Those who wish to contribute or offer support may do so by visiting: https://gofund.me/82405ae60
