

He worked at the stockyards in Indianapolis and also in the Civilian Conservation Corp before enlisting in the Army in August, 1942. He received a Service Medal for serving his country in the Pacific Theatre as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 8, 1945.
While stationed at Paine Field in 1945 he met a very special dancing partner, Katherine (Rena) Buscaglia, at the Trianon Ballroom. They were married on May 25, 1946 in Indianapolis. They returned to the Everett, WA area in 1948.
Red worked at the shipyard in Bremerton, WA and then various lumber mills in Everett. He finally settled in at Scott Paper Company and retired from there after 30 years.
Red always enjoyed getting together with old buddies at the holiday parties that Scott Paper had for all of their retired employees during the holiday season.
Red was a long-time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was active in the choir and served on several different boards.
Red was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 64 years, Rena, who passed away on January 15, 2011.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Becky) Paynter, Jr. of Plainfield, IN; also survived by his nieces, Diana (Jim) Woodard of Everett, Carol Vogel of Snohomish, WA, Jeanette (John) Ayres of Snohomish and Margaret (Rick) Johnston-Lindberg of Everett; nephew, Ray Vogel of Snohomish; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews, dear family, friends and loving neighbors.

Viewing will be a 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2521 Lombard Ave., Everett, WA. Burial will be at GAR Cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Providence Hospice of Snohomish County.
