I may not remember my grandfather well.. but I know he was a lovely man and it hurts hearing all the stories of me and him when I was a baby, I wish I could’ve known you better, love you and wish you best grandpa. ❤️

I did not know him, but he died for me by taking part in a clinical trial for CLL treatment.  A belated thank you for your words of encouragement.

Missing you so much Daddy. I cannot believe a month has gone by without you. You would be so amazed and proud at how much your grandchildren have grown and learned to accomplish. I love you with all my heart and wish so much to have one more hug.

My family grew up with Randy's family...went camping,and spent time together when we were young. His mom and my mom are still best friends to this day and I absolutely love Jean!!! She is such an inspiration and has gone through so much losing her husband, and 3 sons!  Way more than any mother should have to endure in a lifetime!  I did not know Randy well as adults, but Jean was kind enough to forward some of his posts from time to time.  It has been great reading all the posts here from his Lighthouse friends and others!  The Memorial Service for Randy was beautiful and so moving!  He was so loved and will be missed by many! Your whole family is in my thoughts and prayers!  May God bless you and comfort you all as you go through this most difficult time!

I have known Randy(mousie boy) for 40 years ,my Steve has known him for 45 years.We have known Deb sense there 2nd meeting when he came home from Nam,he was living with us and ask to barrow our car ,I said what for,he said for his long lost love,what do you say to that.Don't wreck my car or I will say you stole it,and have fun.Met Debbie a week later,and it's been family sense.I will miss the jokes ,the cards,the lake water ,and the look on our faces when we saw what we had drank.Love ya brudda,your sissy  5&3  you won buddy

A year ago, Randy welcomed me with open arms when I joined the Leukemia Lighthouse after I was diagnosed with CML a year ago.  I was devastated and frightended when I was first diagnosed.  The support I received from Randy made my first year with the disease easier to bear.  I pray for Randy and his family.  He is now at peace and find comfort in the fact that he helped a great number of people while dealing with his own illness,

i only knew Randy from our leukemia  website .. he was always there if you needed him or had a question or just need to talk .. i looked up to him....as i have CLL too.. he made me feel as though i would someday beat this beast!!

Randy, I met you 21 yrs ago as my Journeyman Plumber. We had an immediate connection, being former Marines...You had patience and wisdom.  Your greatest legacy is to pass on what you taught me. Over the years I continued to go to you for guidance,thank you my friend.. You will be missed..

I am having a hard time writing about my friend RANDY and this is because there is so much good about him the thoughts going through my head are just all piled into one big pile and along with my very deep sadness of his Death all so sudden I still find it hard to begin.  I met RANDY my friend and blood buddy on a cancer group and after some time he and I realized that with all our joking around about each other and our cancer that I asked him eventually to join me in helping and administering on the LIGHTHOUSE GROUP on FaceBook, but before asking he had already joined the group unbeknownst to me and so I didn't have to look far to ask about being PART of the LLC, for which after only half a day he said yes.   OUR JOURNEY of LEUKEMIA was quite similar as was our Blood Cancer effects and treatments in many ways, and soon our friendship was flying above the clouds and I couldn't have been more happier than I was about this..  It wasn't about number's it was about people Like ourselves caring and sharing about others with Blood Cancer and visa versa.  Things took of for the group because he was there, sure a miriad of reasons helped but it was his Personality and a caring attitude along with a Loving Heart all in the truest sense of the words that made My Friend RANDY a TRUE TRUE FRIEND, not just to me but everyone that he met...  For ME I couldn't have ask GOD to send anyone else to me to help me with the group for which he was in part a creator of himself, and so much of what we see there is seen because of him...  The group was his second JOB, and certainly not for the $ MONEY but because he loved doing what he did best there, caring and sharing with other's like us..  He would never allow anyone to say its time for them to give up and just not care anymore because RANDY SHIRLEY would not allow that ever, and if he got even a glimpse of seeing that posted he would be right there to give you his SPECIAL PEP TALK, for which at the end he would be telling you "YOUR NOT GIVING UP", and so you felt as if you OWED him something and by the end of the day that person would be so possitive about what they were going to do to help themselves that you wonder What SPECIAL TOUCH HE HAD, but that was MY FRIEND RANDY for ya.  OUR friendship became so close and for not just obvious reason's but also the not so obvious, but I can tell you that for him and I and our better halves that just by watching and following us that we Truely have/had something so very special and a friend like RANDY does not come along often...      You See his way of helping was not just as a patient helping himself and some others but his Real Dream  I think, and the more he got involved in a persons life the more you seen who and what he was really about, Honesty to the highest level, and if anyone had a BIG HEART such as his that could likely keep a herd of Elephants alive, and he cared so much about his fellow man and woman that his attitude would likely mean he would lay down his life for you, which brings me to his Clinical Trial, we all know that without Clinical Trials our hopes of a cure would likely never see the light of day but I thank GOD we have them.  But for RANDY this was something he Deserved and for a number of reasons, but he did it not just for himself but for ALL of us and he paid the Ultimate Price for us and that need no mention I say.  Him and I never seen each other as didn't his wife DEBBIE and friends Jodee and Steve whom he loved so much too, but meeting him was not something we had to do in order to see how we loved each other.. Not meeting him was a tease for us because it was the only thing left  to commit to our friendship, and yet for me I feel as though I let him down for not going to see him and for that I am so sad for, so I asked him to save me a warm place in heaven for me next to his place so we can sit and chat like old times, and I know he will do that for me.  I know the trial made him Glow in how he talked about it, he was so up beat and cheerful about getting into it and he always talked about how he hoped this would help other's but if a person needed a bright light then it was him because as much as he spoke so positive about not giving up etc; this was the ticket for him he said, and we all thought no matter what the outcome this gave him enough HOPE that I thought he would make it anyway just on his FAITH and OURS right behind him.   I am sorry for writing so much about my FRIEND but then there isn't enough room here anyway to full explain the MAN he was...  I will miss him dearly, and although I am being selfish here I doubt anyone can step into his shoe's either, for that statement im sorry but its how I feel.  We had many talks between us, most of which were of other's who needed help from us and how we would handle it, some was about our own lives in many ways, and some just plain ole' fun and that was He and I.  We even had nick names for each other, and more than one or two, and depending on the subject at hand that would dictate what we called each other and for other's they got many Laugh's out of it, thinking we were just plain ole' crazy lol, but thats what I like about him, and he I...  We may not be perfect, I know im not, but if anyone came close to all the GOOD things a Person can be in there LIFE it was MY FRIEND RANDY....   I doubt my days will ever be without a thought of my friend and his wife Deb, but then I am thinking he will Likely do something to me to remind me its him reminding me he is there for me and everyone, that was my friend.  I have so much more to say but I know my tears will keep running down my face and im not so sure they will allow all this goodness I say about him to be posted, you see I can honestly say that friends Like my RANDY are so hard to come by and I am so Honored to have been part of his Life, and he mine, but more so a PART of ALL the LIVES of so many people for whom he helped and did it with pride, a caring feeling and a real sense of being a human being, we should all strive to be half he was, the world would be a better and I do mean a most better place to be.  I will miss you so much my friend, i'm sorry for what you had to endure because there was so much the world could learn from you... I have lost, yes lost one of the very best friends in my LIFE, and I am having much difficulty in not only dealing with this but in how am I going to step into your shoe's and keep taking care of those who also loved you on our group, and you not there for me that way, I have no clue, none, and I wish you would please thru God give me a sign what you want me to do.  I know im being selfish but I could have done this without you and so why I ask did you leave.  Please if you can help me understand why our God seen fit to take you when he did, I know he would say it was your time but that still doesn't help me,  I loved you like my BROTHER, and I will alway's think of you as one,  you REST IN PEACE and know we will all be here for your DEBBIE and make her feel she is not alone in this. It was my great honor to know Randy through the FB Lighthouse connection group. Although my leukemia was AML, not CLL, Randy always shared what he knew to me and many others. Randy and Debbie were our neighbors in Marysville for about 25 years until very recently. They were the very best neighbors anyone could have. We watched their girls grow up. Randy was one of those good, quiet, helpful persons. We are so sorry to hear of his passing, and Debbie and her family are in our prayers.

Dear cousin Randy i really don't know what to say that has not been said already.You were loved by so many people and will be missed very much. But we know you have found peace perfect peace. Love ya cuz.

I 'met' Randy through the CLL Lighthouse. Navigating the paths of CLL for both my father & [3 years later] me, I've found the support, guidance & information invaluable. Most importantly, Randy illustrates the difference one very special person can make in the world. I will think of him & his family fondly with every lighthouse I see & remind myself to share the light with others.

I also knew Randy through the CLL Lighthouse site. He always had just the right words, the correct comment to those who are struggling with CLL issues.

We met Randy quite a few years ago when he did some plumbing at our house in Granite.  He was so helpful and very interesting to talk to.  Whenever we had any plumbing questions, he was our 'go to' guy. Our condolences to his family.

Though, I have never met Randy in person we had a special bond through having the same type of blood cancer CLL.  He has been there for me many times with a encouraging word.  Heaven gained a special angel when he was called home. Randy will be missed by us all.

I keep seeing us rolling down the hill in your back yard when we were little kids and laughing all the way down.  I love you cousin and am proud to call you family!!!

I met Randy through our Lighthouse group. He was always protective of our group and watched over it faithfully.

I am still in shock of Randy's passing. He was a very sweet man. He helped so many people and his kindness was unbelievable. 

Though I never met him in person, I feel I know him from all he shared. I know he is resting in peace with our Lord and will probably continue watching over us all :)

I am heartbroken. I only knew Randy virtually through an interactive site, but we were both participating in clinical trials for leukemia, and had been diagnosed in our 50's the same year. He was a leader to those diagnosed with cancer and a good spirit.  I send my prayers to his family.

Randy was a friend from high school of mine. We really became good friends when I became a member of the lighthouse group. With all that he was going through Randy always seemed to lift your spirits. He made the day a better one. He was a man that our group looked up to. If he didn't know the answer he would go out of his way to find out it for you. We will miss you, but will never forget you. Randy was our guiding light at CLL Lighthouse and we all knew that whenever we needed advice or encouragement he was always there! He gave and gave and gave! He was always a positive force, and his strength and his humor made our days so much brighter! Our hearts go out to Randy's family, he will be missed so very much!

Randy was a special cousin I was only able to know through our Facebook connection.  I felt like I really knew him and our other family I had yet to meet.  Randy was amazing.  Through all he went through, he was so brave and so willing to try whatever he had to do to beat the cancer.  I am so sorry for those he loved and who loved him.  May he rejoice in paradise!

Randy , I don't know what to say . You were the first family I really talked to since I left Idaho 30 years ago and If It were not for you I would have not gone to the Family Reunion. I only met Randy about a month ago, on Lighthouse Connection, but in that month he showed me compassion; hope; love; and understanding.  He was always there with an uplifting comment.  I am sure Randy is in the arms of our loving God.  Randy has finally been healed.  Love and prayers to his family,  My heart is heavy for your loss.

Although I have only known Randy through the CLL Lighthouse site, I feel honored to have been that little part of his world.  He was "CLL family" to many.  He has given me moral support, and very good advise regarding this illness. He was positive and brave, and an inspiration to many of us dealing with this disease.
