Rodney Doyle Vroman

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rodney Doyle Vroman, 86, of Snohomish, Washington. Rod lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, service to his community, and a long-standing career in education. Through his 86 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit of perseverance.

Rod was born October 2, 1939, to Nathan and Alcina Vroman in Bellingham, Washington. He attended Ferndale High School, graduating in 1957. While attending high school, he met his beloved wife, Joan Weidkamp, and they were married in 1961. Rod attended Western Washington University, receiving his B.A. in Education in 1962 and later earning his Master's degree in Education.

He started his successful education career in Concrete, WA, teaching social studies and coaching football and track. “Great athletics, but even greater kids,” he often said. In 1967, Rod and Joan moved to Snohomish, WA, where he began an illustrious career with the Snohomish School District. He spent five years teaching and counseling at the senior high school, then transitioned to the junior high school, serving three years as vice principal and nine years as principal. Rod finished his career as assistant to the district superintendent, retiring in 1993.

In 1972, Rod joined the Snohomish Kiwanis Club and with dedication, he actively contributed to building a vibrant organization for over five decades. He led the charge for many programs serving local youth, including the Key Club, Snohomish Boys & Girls Club, and served as Lt. Governor for a region in the Pacific Northwest District of Kiwanis International. His commitment and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and contributed significantly to the organization's mission.

Outside of his professional and community service, Rod found joy in many pastimes. His lifelong love for fishing began when he started reef netting off Lummi Island at age 15. Throughout his adult life, Rod, his family, and friends spent many wonderful years visiting the island and enjoying the outdoors. He could often be found watching college sports, the Mariners, and the Seahawks—activities that brought him equal parts excitement, relaxation, and heartbreak.

Rod is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan; his three children, Ross Vroman (Yvonne), Ron Vroman, and Susan Lippincott (Ryan); five grandchildren; Jake & Luke Vroman, Tanner Lippincott (Micaela), Erika Lippincott (Troy) and Tyler Vroman; two great-grandchildren; Caleb Lippincott-Chipman and Miller Lippincott. He is also survived by his brother Howard Vroman (Mary) and brother-in-law Ron Weidkamp.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Nathan & Alcina Vroman; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine & John Kammerzell; sister-in-law, Donna Weidkamp; and stepmother, Frances Vroman.

Rod's legacy of humor, perseverance, and passion for learning will be carried forward by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever remain an inspiration—a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit filled with curiosity and resilience.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
