Thomas Alan Kennard, 64, of Snohomish, Wash., died on Aug. 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on Aug. 27, 1961, in Wilmington, Del., Tom grew up in Maryland and lived there for most of his life before moving to Washington. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1984 and a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University in 1987. He went on to build a distinguished career as a developer at Microsoft, where his creativity and dedication left a lasting impact.
Tom was known for his wit and wisdom—always ready with a clever remark or thoughtful advice. He loved ’90s rock, a good glass of chardonnay, and long drives just to “go for a ride.” The outdoors brought him peace and he was rarely without a sturdy walking stick in hand. Always inventing, Tom spent the past year developing his app, Whatchagot, designed to provide a functional inventory service for everyday use.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Kennard; his children, Jacqueline Richards (Matthew), Tyler Kennard (Rebecca), and Colin Kennard (Chanel); and grandchildren: Emma, Jackson, and Benjamin; Taytum, Tanner, Tucker, and Teagan; Landon, Lillian, Liam, and Lennon. He is also survived by his siblings, Laura Sadowski (Frank), Steve Kennard (Mary), and Jeff Kennard (Ruth); and remembered by extended family, friends, and colleagues who will deeply miss his humor, generosity, and steady presence.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Louise Kennard, and grandchild, Brinley Kennard.
A service will be held at Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish, Wash., on Oct. 10, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Conservation Northwest.
