March 28, 1942May 15, 2013

William (Bill) Earl Guedel Jr., 71, passed away May 15th, 2013 in Providence Medical Center in Everett, WA. He cared for himself and his wife, Aija, until the last few days of his life. During his final days in the hospital he was surrounded by loved ones and he passed away very peacefully. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aija Guedel, son Greg Guedel, daughter in law Christina Wygant, daughter Maija Braaten, son in law Karl Braaten, sisters Dede Busby and Donna James, and grandson Erik Braaten. He and his wife, Aija, loved living in Snohomish for thirty five years. Bill was born March 28th, 1942 in Canton Ohio to William Earl Guedel Sr. and Mary Smith. He loved all sports, especially football. Bill was Captain of Canton McKinley High School and Princeton University championship teams. He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1964. His career included working on the Boeing 747 and managing the construction of numerous buildings coast to coast. These major buildings are found at the University of Washington, Central Washington University, Clemson University, and the South Carolina Aquarium. Bill had a passion for the outdoors. He was a member of the Mountaineers and climbed every major peak on the West Coast (Mount Baker to Mount Whitney). He also really enjoyed music, reading, and had an impressive movie collection, especially Westerns. He loved traveling and took his family across the United States, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. His greatest love was his family, and coaching and rooting for his daughter, Maija, and son, Greg, when they were involved in athletics and high school theater productions. He is very proud that his daughter, Maija, is an academic counselor at the UAB School of Medicine and his son, Greg, is a practicing Seattle attorney and serving on the Snohomish City Council. There will be a simple graveside ceremony at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22nd 2013 at GAR Snohomish followed by a reception at home. Bill will always be remembered for his love of family, integrity, incredible work ethic while always taking time out to read and play with his children, and coaching boys and girls’ teams. He will be greatly missed but his amazing legacy will continue.
