David John Audlin, Sr., 84, of Syracuse, New York, departed this life on the 24th of May, 2015, at Paso Ancho, Panama, where he was living with his son, the Rev. James David Audlin and daughter-in-law Andrea Melba Vargas Vega de Audlin, for the last 18 months. The son of Leland J. and Louise Kirschner Audlin, he was a graduate of Syracuse University and served in the New York National Guard at Fort Drum, NY. He taught English and Humanities, serving for many years as the Chairman of the English Department at West Genesee Senior High School, in Camillus, NY.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eleanor May Vock Audlin, and is survived by his two sons, James D. Audlin and David J. Audlin, Jr., two grandchildren, Katharine Audlin Blood and John Manthei Audlin, one great-grandaughter, Beatrix Elizabeth Blood, and 18 step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a scholar, and loved the classics of literature, music, and art, and has left that passion for knowledge as his legacy to his family and to the many students he taught through the years. He particularly loved Shakespeare, and when winter chill could be felt in Central New York, would quote Hamlet: "It is a nipping and an eager air."
