

David R. Togni, 73, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, August 25th at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Over the past three years, David valiantly fought to recover from a traumatic brain injury making tremendous strides to regain a normal life. The family was blessed and eternally grateful to be given the opportunity to spend more time with David after the injury, and they relished every moment.
He was born in Syracuse to the late Egidio Olivio and Marceline (Antoniolli) Togni in 1942. He attended and graduated from Solvay High School in 1960. Dave served his country while on active duty with the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Tutuila. He was a Customer Service Sales Representative with AT&T over 40 years before retiring. He then worked for Westhill School District as a groundskeeper. He was a communicant of St. Cecilia Church, a member of the Solvay Tigers AC and member and past president of the Tyrol Club of Solvay. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Pauline Gamble, daughter, Michelle (James) Lumb, 2 sons, David R. (Jennifer) Togni, Jr. and Timothy N. (Crystal) Togni, Nono to 9 grandchildren, Chelsea (Darryl) Stivers, Devin, Jimmy and Seth Lumb, Benjamin, Sara, Jenna, Paige and Zoe Togni, and great-grandson, Cameron David Stivers, a brother, Ronald Togni, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 8:45 am Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, Solvay and 9:30 am at St. Cecilia Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and entombment with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners. Family and friends may call Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
Prior to returning home in May of this year, David spent a year of his recovery at Iroquois Nursing Home where a wonderful and talented staff cared for him. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in his memory to Iroquois Nursing Home, 4600 Southwood Heights Dr., Jamesville, NY 13078, so that they may continue to provide amazing care to their patients.
