Joe Stier, world’s biggest rugby fan, music lover, photography hobbyist, boys’ football and rugby coach and beloved brother passed away peacefully in his sleep on Feb 2nd at the age of 56. He grew up on the north side, where he graduated from Assumption Academy. He had been employed with the US Postal Service for almost 29 years, most recently as an International Accounts Manager. Joe was predeceased by his father Joe in 1973, his mother Ruth in 1983 and “Gram” Marie in 1988.
While attending SUNY Oswego he began his life-long love of rugby, playing for Oswego, the Syracuse Rogues, the Albany Knickerbockers and was a founding member of the Syracuse Harlequins. He passed this enthusiasm for rugby and football onto “his kids” - the boys that “Coach Joe” mentored and inspired in Elk Grove Village, IL where he lived for the past fifteen years.
Joe’s siblings: sister Michelle (Ron) DeStefano, brothers Jeff and Jon (Beth) Stier, ten nieces and nephews: Heather (Keith), Angela, Daniel, Ronald and Leigha DeStefano, Joseph, Andrew, Daniel, Carly and Holly Stier and great-nephew Zachary DeStefano invite you to join them in the grotto of The Church of the Assumption, 812 N.
