

Kemsie C. Witthoeft, 89, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday February 28, 2015 at Van Duyn Center. She was born in Oneida to the late Edgar and Julia (White) Boyce. Kemsie was a graduate of Oneida High School and later attended Providence Barrington and Niagara University. She retired in 1980 from Upstate University where she worked as an administrative assistant for 25 years. She then began volunteering at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 15 years. Kemsie was a member of N. Syracuse Baptist Church, Solvay Christian Assembly, the Church of Christ, American Security Council and the Peace Council. She was a member of the YMCA, past President of CSEA at Upstate, and was also a Foster Grandparent at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 7 years. Kemsie was an avid lover of sports, enjoyed reading, knitting and being a part of numerous activities throughout the community. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her 2 sons; Michael Monroe, of North Carolina and Richard Witthoeft, of North Syracuse; her beloved grandson; Michael Mastroleo, of Camillus, her great friend and caregiver, Sandy (Mastroleo) Sitar and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Kemsie’s wishes, her remains were donated to the SUNY Upstate Anatomical Gift Program.
