Leona (D'Alessandro) Borell

Leona (D’Alessandro) Borell, 92, of Geddes, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Born in San Martino, Italy, she came to the United States at age seven. She attended Grant School and Solvay Schools as well as evening CCBI. Leona retired from Pass & Seymour LeGrande and Syracuse Electronics after a 25 year career. Leona was a communicant of St. Cecilia Church in Solvay. She was a member of the Sons of Italy and the American Italian Heritage Organization. As an avid reader, she maintained membership and support for the Solvay Public Library. Leona enjoyed baking and was noted for her pies and Italian cookies. Leona was predeceased by her husband; Anthony Borell, her parents; Anthony and Mary D’Alessandro and three great-granddaughters; Claire, Melinda and Mary Borell, brother-in-law, Richard Thomas.

She is survived by a son, John A. (Peggy) Borell, of Sylvania Ohio, and daughter Debra (Thomas) Burns, of Westvale. Grandchildren include Joseph Burns, John A. Borell, Jr., Mark Borell, David Borell, Anthony Borell, Christina Goodwin, Rachel Borell, Grace Borell and James Borell. Great-grandchildren are Ann-Marie, John A. III, Ashley, Brianna, T.J., Kylee and Natalie and a sister, Josephine Thomas, of Geddes.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 pm Saturday, January 17, 2015 in St. Cecilia Church, 1001 Woods Rd. Solvay. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.
