

Edward J. Monfils, age 79, of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the devoted husband of Lucille G. (Ouellette) Monfils, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Alfred and Anita (Boudria) Monfils.
Edward proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued his education at Bristol Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting. He went on to enjoy a career of more than 30 years with the Natick Labs Center and the Newport Naval Base before retiring in 2002.
An avid sports fan, Edward especially enjoyed cheering on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed dining out, but above all, he treasured the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Lucille, he is survived by his son, James E. Monfils of Somerset; his sister, Annette Nixon and her husband Michael of Swansea; his brother, Alfred Monfils, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Rehoboth; and many nieces and nephews. He was the loving father of the late Kevin R. Monfils.
His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton Street, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited directly to church. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset. Burial will be private.
