Born in Fall River, Helen was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Jenny (Santos) Souza. She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and worked for many years at the former Bradlees Department Store in Somerset before retiring in 1998.
Helen found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved tending to her garden, cooking for those she loved, creating beautiful needlepoint pieces, and traveling. Above all else, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Medeiros and his wife Denise of Assonet; her grandchildren, Derek Medeiros and his wife Kori of Taunton, Scott Medeiros and his wife Ashley of Warren, and Kristen Patchen and her husband David of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania; and her cherished great-granddaughters, Kennedy Medeiros, Grace Medeiros, and Olivia Patchen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Helen was the loving mother of the late Judith “Judy” Medeiros and the sister of the late Joseph Souza and his wife Ruth, Frank Souza and his wife Margaret, and Herman Souza and his wife Rose.
Helen’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ana Pereira for the loving care, kindness, and companionship she provided to Helen during the last several months.
Helen’s funeral will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Luther Avenue, Somerset. Relatives and friends and relatives are invited. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
