

REBELLO, JAMES SOUSA JR., 79, of Assonet passed away peacefully at home Thursday, August 10th surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Gloria Mercado-Rebello, for 33 incredible years.
Jim was born in Fall River, MA., the son of the late Eliza (Campos) Rebello and the late James S. Rebello.
He was the devoted and loving father of Karen A. (Rebello) Raposa and her husband Russell Raposa, James D. Rebello and his wife Carolyn Matula, Robert F. Rebello and his wife Lisa (Silvia) Rebello, and Laurie B. (Rebello) Phenix and her husband Christopher Phenix. He was the brother of Donald Rebello and his wife Joanne (Lebeau) Rebello, of Somerset MA. He was the grandfather of Brandi-Lee, RJ, Thomas, Conor, Marissa, Juliana, James, and Alexis.
Jim was a graduate of Somerset High School in 1961 where he excelled as a track athlete and was the varsity quarterback for his junior and senior seasons. He was a member of the 1958 Somerset Class D state championship football team which was inducted into the Somerset High School Hall of Fame. In 1959, he was a member of the Tri-County Championship football team. Jim was a graduate of Boston University’s College of Business Administration and continued his love of football as an officiant for the Southeastern Mass Football Official Association for 12 years.
Jim worked for Horizon Beverage Company, formerly Premium Beverage of Brockton, MA. He retired in 2005 after 31 years. He was also a communicant of the Church of Our Saviour in Somerset and had an unwavering commitment to the church and its parishioners.
Jim’s love for canines was unending. He was a loving father to the late Fritzie, Blackie, and Duke. He leaves behind his best friend, Maddie girl. His pets lived like royalty.
Jim was a devoted family man who was always close with his family and friends, living in the Fall River area his entire life. He participated in many community sports and social programs such as coaching youth baseball. He sat on the board at Crystal Springs, Inc which specializes in adult developmental disabilities.
He had a group of true friends for many years with whom he shared his love of golf and good times. Jim was known for his engaging manner, unique sense of humor, genuine caring, as well as his helpful and thoughtful ways. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to share a special thank you to Benito Mercado, brother of Jim’s wife Gloria, for the care and dedication Benny provided to him during his final weeks.
His visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13th from 4-7 pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday, August 14th at 11:00am at the funeral home, followed by a 12:00pm Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of Our Saviour, 2112 County Street, Somerset, MA.
