

Marie (Svenningsson) Leonard, RN of Somerset, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Richard G. Leonard Sr., to whom she had been married for 58 years.
Born in Anderstorp, Sweden the daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Anderson) Svenningsson, she immigrated to the United States at the age of 4 with her mother, and settled in Englewood, NJ before moving to Somerset 55 years ago.
Mrs. Leonard became a Registered Nurse upon graduation from Englewood School of Nursing in 1944 and became a Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corp during World War II. Upon her honorable discharge from the Army she went back to school and graduated from Columbia University.
Mrs. Leonard was employed as a Registered Nurse in various hospitals, the public health sector and was a private duty nurse in New Jersey and the Fall River area. She enjoyed reading, the beach, animals, traveling and especially the time spent with her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband are her three children Karen L. Barrar and her husband William of Swansea, Deborah L. Bibeau and her husband Barry of Swansea and Richard G. Leonard Jr., of Seattle, WA; she was ”mormor” to William Barrar IV and his wife Haley, Erin Molly Barrar, Riley Barrar, Kevin Bibeau, Jeffrey Bibeau and Sara Jane Bibeau and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 8AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT ROSE E. SULLIVAN 866 County Street Somerset, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9AM in St. Patrick’s Church 306 South Street, Somerset. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
