Oliverio De Melo “Oliver Mello”, age 93, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his home in Somerset surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Alda (Reis) Melo with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores a son of the late Manuel and Angelina (Carreiro) De Melo he immigrated to the United States in 1949 and was a longtime resident of Somerset.
Educated in Portugal, he was a wine barrel builder. Oliver was a skilled construction Foreman at D’Ambra Construction, formerly Campanella for many years before retiring. An active member of Revival Church for the Nations, he assisted in many construction projects for them. Oliver loved to play his violin and mandolin at home with family, church and in a band. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by her daughter, Ruth Correia of Fall River; and son, Oliver Mello, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Somerset; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Correia, Jordan Correia and his wife Jessica, Stephanie Harris and her husband John, Tabitha Harris and her husband Joshua, Felicity Mello, Chariti Mello, Hannah Mello and Seth Mello; nine great-grandchildren, John, Christopher, Gabriella, Amelia, Almerinda, Abigail, Michael, Josiah and Victoria Harris; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel Mello, Carlos Mello and Hilda Domingos and father-in-law of the late Almerinda Mello.
His Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Revival Church for the Nations, 620 Plymouth Avenue, Fall River, MA 02721. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 at the church prior to the service. Burial in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset.
