Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Francis J. and Barbara (Clark) Phelan, she was a lifelong resident of the city until moving to the Golden Living Center-Oak Hill, in Middleboro in 2002. She was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School and also attended a course in Law for Women.
A Bookkeeper, she worked in payroll for the former Kay Sportswear, Inc. for many years until the business was dissolved. Prior to that she worked for the former Muriel Trucking for 21 years.
She was a communicant of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Church and a member of its retirees club where she held the office of Sunshine Lady. She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club of Fall River and was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose where she held the highest office: “Senior Regent” and had earned the “Pilgrim Degree”. She was also a member of the Old Town Hall of Somerset where she held several offices including: chaplain, activity chair-person and publicity chairperson.
She is survived by one niece; Barbara Desrosiers of East Taunton, one nephew; Donald Danis of Fairfax, VT, and several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was twin sister of the late Francis P. Phelan, and sister of the late Mildred Danis and M. Angela Whiteman and aunt of the late Carolyn LaPointe.
Her funeral will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 10:00AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave Somerset. Her family will receive friends Friday prior to her Mass from 8:30 - 9:30 AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at ROSE E. SULLIVAN, 866 County St. Somerset. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Somerset. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Golden Living Center- Oak Hill Resident Council Fund 76 North St. Middleboro, MA 02346.
