

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Seraphin and Georgina (Costa) Nobrega. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Richard furthered his education by completing courses at Bristol Community College and participated in training academies to become a correctional officer and later a police officer.
Richard worked in Law Enforcement for 47 years. First, as a Corrections Officer at the Massachusetts Correctional Facility in Walpole from 1968 to 1973. He was a Police Officer for the Somerset Police Department from 1973 until 1999 and stayed on the force as a Reserve Officer until his official retirement in 2015.
Richard was a member of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local #518. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling, and above all else, spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by one son, Richard Nobrega, Jr.; one daughter, Alicia Correira and her husband Gary all of Fall River; four grandchildren, Melissa DiMotta and her husband Zachary, Michael Farrell and his wife Janet, Aaron Correira and his fiancée Tanya, and Kyle Correira and his wife Kimberly; six great-grandchildren, Charlie, Penelope, Benjamin, Evelyn, Kinsley, and Kristian, as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard was the father of the late James Doyle Nobrega, brother of the late Seraphin Nobrega, Jr., and father-in-law of the late Kathleen Nobrega.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s honor may be made to Southcoast Health at Home, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
