Roland W. Hebert, age 93, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Riverview Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Coventry. He was the beloved companion of Arlene B. Brown, with whom he shared 37 devoted years.
Born in Fall River, Roland was the son of the late Edward and Matilda (Doucette) Hebert. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States National Guard during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
Following his military service, Roland dedicated many years to the students and staff of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, working as a custodian and bus driver until his retirement in 1989. Retirement, however, did not slow him down. He continued to serve his community, working in the office of Dr. Robitaille and later as a funeral assistant for the Sullivan Funeral Homes.
Roland was a man of many passions. He enjoyed daily walks, diving, and ballroom dancing, but his true love was spearfishing. A familiar face at local tournaments, he earned the nickname “The Legend” for his remarkable ability to land the largest catch in his category. He was known for his tireless energy, whether working side jobs, boating, or enthusiastically attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his loving companion Arlene, Roland is survived by his children: Nancy E. Carpenter and her partner Jay Chatterton of Fall River; Michael R. Hebert and his wife Sally Murray of Tiverton; and Lisa M. Stukas and her husband Donald of Somerset. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Michael J. Carpenter, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; Philip Hebert of Somerset; Katelyn Archetto of Coventry, RI; Robert Stukas of Seminole, FL; and Susan Stukas of Hudson, MA. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Roland was predeceased by his seven siblings.
His memorial service will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland's honor can be made to the Veterans Association of Bristol County, 755 Pine Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
