Scott Yonan, age 71, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026. Born in New Britain, CT on April 4, 1955, he was the son of the late Theodore and Edith (Laughlin) Yonan. Scott was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susan (Lange) Yonan.
Scott graduated from South Windsor High School in 1973 and from Roger Williams College in 1977. Scott resided in Texas with family until 1986 when he returned to Rhode Island to start his family and settle into his career at Roger Williams University, from where he retired in 2019.
Scott made a lasting impression on everyone that he encountered throughout his life. He had an innate ability to connect with just about anyone and truly cherished the relationships that he built. He had a great sense of humor, a wonderful laugh and an amazing memory of his past, as well as the past of everyone he was related to. His work at RWU was very special to him and he genuinely loved his interactions with students from all over the world, supporting them through their time spent at college, while simultaneously working hard to make positive changes to the RWU community as a whole. His colleagues became like family and he cherished their get-togethers over the years.
Scott enjoyed many hobbies, including playing guitar, listening to music, collecting watches and riding motorcycles with Sue and friends. Sitting on the porch of the family cottage in Maine, playing guitar with his brother, Jonathan, with his family listening to their music, was a great joy of his. He loved a hot cup of coffee and enjoyed hanging out at home, watching the evening news with his family and his dogs, Gibson and Toby.
Scott is survived by his two daughters, Alexandra Proulx and her husband Michael of Swansea and Samantha Yonan and her partner Matthew of Warren; two granddaughters, Tatum and Addison; his siblings, Lisa Yonan Doocy and her husband Paul and Jonathan Yonan and his partner Betsy; his former wife and friend, Astrid Yonan, as well as four nephews, Sean, Neil, Theodore and Harrison; and many more family members and close friends.
A private Celebration of Scott’s life will be held with his family. Contributions in Scott’s memory can be made to Save the Music Foundation by visiting savethemusic.org
